In anticipation of our upcoming concert, I will be posting a recording of this year's University Singers from the University of Delaware each day until the concert.
Ola Gjeilo is a young up-and-coming choral composer from Norway. This piece was commissoned by the American Choral Directors Association last year. The text was written by Charles Anthony Silvestri after seeing a photograph of part of Ola's native Norway. The result was a text filled with beautiful imagery, which Ola set appropriately.
"Wide, worn and weathered,Sacred expanse Of green and white and granite grey; Snowy patches strewn, Anchored to the craggy earth, Unmoving; While clouds dance Across the vast eternal sky."
We performed this piece on our fall concert as well as on our winter concert, since the text was so appropriate! Here again are the UD University Singers, accompanied by Wendy McNally. This arrangement can be purchased from Walton Music (www.waltonmusic.com).
If you are in the area, be sure and come to our spring concert. We will be performing works by Tarik O'Regan, Bach, Schumann, Verdi, Mendelssohn, and others. University Singers will be accompanied by Wendy McNally and the concert will also feature UD's own Noël Archambeault.
