In anticipation of our upcoming concert, I will be posting a recording of this year's University Singers from the University of Delaware each day until the concert.
Sergei Rachmaninoff was probably most well known for his virtuosic piano music. Among choral musicians, his "All-Night Vigil," sometimes called "Vespers" is a well-loved and moving work for a cappella mixed choir. Less well known are his set of 6 Choruses for Women's Voices, Op. 15. The vocal writing is not complex, but it is beautiful and expressive. The piano part not only supports the singers but adds a distinct voice to the texture of the pieces.
Here is our performance of the second of the six choruses, entitled "Nochka," or "Night." Once again, the piano part is played beautifully and expressively by Wendy McNally. This arrangement can be purchased from Musica Russica (www.musicarussica.com).
6 Choruses, Op. 15_ No. 2. Nochka (Night)
If you are in the area, be sure and come to our spring concert. We will be performing works by Tarik O'Regan, Bach, Schumann, Verdi, Mendelssohn, and others. University Singers will be accompanied by Wendy McNally and the concert will also feature UD's own Noël Archambeault.
